(GEORGIA, VT – 8 May, 2017) – Liquid Measurement Systems, Inc. announced today it has been selected by Aurora Flight Sciences to support their new unmanned platform, the XV-24A LightningStrike, in the DARPA X-Plane competition.

The XV-24A is being developed with the goal of achieving a top sustained flight speed of 300 – 400 knots, with 15% increase in hover efficiency and a two-fold increase in speed over traditional vertical lift aircraft. It will be the first aircraft in aviation history to demonstrate distributed hybrid-electric propulsion using an innovative synchronous electric-drive system.

LMS will design and manufacture the aircraft’s fuel gauging system, which includes a multi-channel digital signal conditioner and composite capacitance fuel gauging probes. Hardware delivery is currently scheduled for Q4 2017.

LMS is the industry leader in carbon fiber fuel probe technology. Carbon fiber makes the probes incredibly light-weight, durable and long-lived. Aurora selected LMS based upon its adaptable, proven technology, collaborative technical approach and the responsiveness of its team.  The LightningStrike project is LMS’ first with Aurora.

“Flexibility and a strong working relationship with the customer are the keys to our mutual success when working on any new platform, but especially one that will revolutionize aviation technology,” stated LMS CEO George Lamphere. “LMS is pleased to support Aurora Flight Science on this exciting program.”
